Fall/Halloween Day 4: Truffle Holder

Today's feature is a 3-D explosion box that can be used to hold a truffle (or other similar sized item). The picture shows both the closed and open version of the box for Halloween as well as one with a fall theme-maybe for a table favor for Thanksgiving. They call these an explosion box because the sides fall away when the top is removed.

I am including the instructions for making this box, first shown to me by my friend and fellow demonstrator, Mary Schultz, but if you want a video of how it is done check out my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/riskybusinesspapercrafting  and look for the Live recorded on September 29th.

Box base:   Cardstock cut to 6" x 6" and scored at 2" on all sides. After scoring cut out the four corner panels (see picture above of open box). Round the corners of each flap. The corner rounder is part of the Detailed Trio Punch.

Box top:     Cardstock cut to 4" x 4" and scored at just under 1" on all sides. I like to say "one notch"    under 1" so if your trimmer has 16th's go 15/16th, if it has 8th's then go to 7/8th. Cut along one score line at each corner to create a flap that can be folded in. Use Tear & Tape adhesive to fold in each side to create the box cover.

Truffle Holder:   Cardstock strip cut to 6" x 1 7/8". It is scored on the long side at 1 7/8th, 2 3/8th, 4    3/8th, and 4 7/8th. Punch a hole with the 1 1/2" circle punch (a smaller punch can be used if you want the candy to fit a bit more snugly). Fold along all score lines and fold the ends on each other to create a platform for the truffle to sit on. Use Tear & Tape to hold it together and then adhere Tear & Tape to the bottom to hold it in place inside the box.

Inside decoration:  Cut 4 pieces of cardstock 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" and round two corners on the same side.   Cut 4 pieces of DSP at 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and again round two corners on the same side. Layer them on top of each other and then on each flap with your adhesive of choice.

Box Top Decoration:  Cut a piece of cardstock 2" x 2" and a piece of DSP 1 3/4" x 1 3/4". Layer them and then put on top of box with adhesive of your choice. It is easier if you adhere this before you put the top together.

Put truffle or item of choice in the box, close the box and tie with ribbon. Hope you enjoy this little treat holder.
